Lawsuit claims Shreveport collected fake state sales tax on commercial customers

A class-action lawsuit alleging the City of Shreveport over-billed commercial water and sewage customers millions of dollars is filed in Caddo District Court.

The Haven Property Owners Association and BW Partners claim the city can legally levy state sales taxes only on the quantity of water used.

But they claim they are being charged on other components.

The lawsuit claims the city did not report collected sales taxes and instead kept them.

A city spokesperson said they can’t comment on pending litigation.
