Veterans Day tours are planned at Forest Park East cemetery where stories of selected deceased military veterans and fallen military personnel are shared with visitors over two weekends in November.
Local historian John Andrew Prime, former military reporter and history columnist is hosting the tours.
He will share the stories of a half-dozen of the century-old cemetery’s military residents, sharing their stories and their connections to the city, the region and local military facilities, notably Barksdale Air Force Base.
More than 100 fallen soldiers are laid to rest inside Forest Park cemetery.
“This shows that even though things happen a century ago they are not far away at all. The four fallen soldiers who are buried here from World War One died defending America interest or worlds interest,” Prime said.
The tours that will take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018, and Saturday, November 17, 2018.
The tours are free to the public but are limited to a dozen people per tour. As the tour will be a walking tour, those taking part should wear sturdy closed-toe shoes.
