Local man behind bars for multiple sex crimes against a minor

SHREVEPORT, La. - A Shreveport man has been charged with multiple crimes stemming from his alleged sexual involvement with a runaway juvenile.

Shortly after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday detectives received information that a runaway juvenile, missing since June 8, was hiding at a home in the 1500 block of West 59th St.

When police arrived they found the juvenile and 36-year-old Jonathan Powell inside of the home.

Evidence was collected on scene that led investigators to believe that Powell was having inappropriate sexual contact with the juvenile and was allegedly in possession of pornographic videos of juveniles.

Investigators gathered other information that led them to believe that Powell tattooed the juvenile while she was allegedly harbored at his home.

Following interviews, Powell was booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count each of Felony Carnal Knowledge, Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile, Computer aided Solicitation of a Minor, Pornography Involving Juveniles, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, and Tattooing of a Minor.

In 2014 Powell was convicted of Attempted Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes in Caddo Parish District Court.

Powell is currently a Tier 2 registered sex offender. All Tier 2 sex offenders have a mandatory 25 year registration period.
