(KTAL/KMSS) Shreveport is mourning the loss of songwriter and guitarist Maggie Warwick, who played a key role in the renovation and revival of Shreveport’s Municipal Auditorium and was a mentor to upcoming country and rock artists.

Warwick died of complications of pneumonia.

Warwick joined the cast of the Louisiana Hayride in 1958 when she was 18 years old, and performed there until it closed in 1960. She then toured and recorded for Ram Records, and wrote a number of hits for country artists.

In 1981, she came back to Shreveport and married Alton Warwick. By the end of the decade, she became active in the revival of the Municipal Auditorium, and later formed a nonprofit organization to support those efforts. She also served as chairman of the Louisiana Music Commission.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday at the Municipal Auditorium and funeral services will begin at 6 p.m. Rose Neath Funeral Homes is handling the arrangements.
