A local college campus is celebrating a big honor after receiving recognition for academic excellence at the international level.
“There are lots of ways to measure academic excellence, but one of the best ways is through outside validation,” said Texas A&M University – Texarkana President Emily Cutrer.
Texas A&M University – Texarkana is now among the top business schools in the world. The College of Business, Engineering and Technology, now accredited by the AACSB, an international accreditation group.
“It’s just so exciting to have that stamp of approval on my degree,” said Sarah Munger, a graduate student who will be receiving her degree in May.
The school is now among an elite group – only five percent of graduate or undergraduate business colleges worldwide have met the stringent standards to receive the honor.
“This is a goal that all of them seek, and not all receive, so it really is big,” said Cutrer.
Officials said this accreditation will really set this campus apart when it comes to recruiting new students to study here.
“There are certain groups of students, international organizations, and so on and so forth, that will not send students to a university that does not have this level of accreditation,” said Gary Stading, dean of the College of Business, Engineering and Technology.
“It just means that you’re getting a higher quality education than you might get at another school,” said Munger.
In our area, Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas, and Louisiana State University – Shreveport have also received this accreditation.
