Locals are fighting to keep funding for programs that help disabled people living in our community.
Duane Ebarb receives daily care through the New Opportunities Waiver. The program falls under Louisiana’s Office of Citizens with Developmental Disabilities.
He says lawmakers want to lower the monthly income requirements for the program, which would make him no longer eligible. The program provides him with 24 hour care he depends upon.
“I can’t move. I can’t transfer myself. I can’t turn over, so I’m total care. These programs help not only people like myself live in the community, be integrated in the community and social activities.”
Ebarb plans to address lawmakers in Baton Rouge later this month during public testimony, in hopes of securing funding.
