A residential fire caused significant damage to a Shreveport home early this afternoon, according to the Shreveport Fire Department.
The Shreveport Fire Department fire responded to reports of a fire in the 2000 block of Looney Street.
It took crews from Fire Station No. 4 only one minute to respond, and when they did, they reported smoke and flames coming from the front door of the one-story wood frame home.
It took eight units and 24 firefighters to bring the fire under control and extinguish the fire. Fire crews rescued one occupant from the house and brought her to safety. Although she received no injuries, in an abundance of caution, she was but was transported to Ochsner LSU Health for further evaluation.
The residence did receive heavy damage. The occupant will reside with immediate family members until the home can be repaired.
