The head of LSU Health Sciences Centers in Shreveport is asking lawmakers to stall the budget proposal for next fiscal year.
Dr. G.E. Ghali along with the Chancellor of the LSU Health Sciences Centers in New Orleans, told the Senate Finance Committee, that the cuts proposed in the House budget would cripple both medical schools.
The medical schools rely on the safety net hospitals as labs for graduate medical education and for revenue streams from patient treatment.
Ghali is pushing for a special session May with hopes of raising new taxes.
The full House will begin debate the budget on Thursday, after making it out of the House Appropriations Committee on Monday.
