A Texarkana woman is giving a gift of gowns to teens in need.
Apolonia Pacheco founded Gowns for Her to provide prom dresses, makeup and accessories to girls who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford all the expenses to attend the big school event.
She said she started with three dresses a couple years ago, and her program has now grown to more than 500.
All the dresses are donated and are available to teens for free in a wide variety of sizes and styles.
Pacheco said her program is about more than just a dress.
“We help to give also self-esteem to those girls that have that issue of, ‘I don’t want to show my arms,’ or ‘I don’t think I’m pretty enough,’ or ‘this doesn’t work on me,” Pacheco said. “So, we’re able to meet their needs, we’re able to meet them where they are.”
Gown giveaways will take place until 8 p.m. March 8 at Couture Closet in Texarkana, and from 12 – 4 p.m. March 9 at Lake Ridge Apartments in Texarkana.
To pick up a dress, teens just need to bring their school ID.
