The man accused of hitting a woman on Wells Island Road April 23 and leaving her in a ditch has been arrested for DWI three times – twice this year.
Steve Brown, 42, turned himself in for the hit-and-run of 55-year-old Pamela Schuman, and sits in Caddo Correctional Center Jail awaiting his June 20 preliminary examination.
Brown was arrested by Caddo Parish Sheriff’s deputies on Jan. 27, 2018 and booked into CCC on a charge of DWI 2nd Offense, released on bond three days later, and arrested again by Shreveport Police on Feb. 13, 2018, and charged with DWI 3rd Offense. However, for reasons still unclear, the latter charge was changed to DWI 2nd Offense in court documents.
On March 12, he pleaded guilty to both charges and was sentenced to $1000 fine and court costs for each charge, and was sentenced to 90 days in jail, suspended. He was released from jail that day.
About six weeks later, driving without a license, Brown hit Schuman.
Brown’s first DWI arrest was by the Louisiana State Police in September 2013. In November of that year, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 90 days in jail and given a $300 fine.
In addition, Brown had one arrest at age 21 for possession, three arrests when he was 19 years old.
Schuman remains in critical condition at University Health Hospital.
