A Marion County man is in critical condition after being shot on Monday.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office says Prentiss Earl Smith II is currently in the county jail on a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

The initial call was for a welfare check and possible ambulance call at Smith’s residence on FM 2683, in the northeastern part of the county.

Responding officers discovered Frederick Thomas, 28, inside the house and suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.  Thomas was flown by helicopter to University Health/LSU Hospital in Shreveport, where he remains in critical condition.

Smith was arraigned Tuesday morning by Justice of the Peace Lena Pope, and remains in jail under bonds totaling $175,000.00.

Both the suspect and victim are Marion County residents. The investigation into this incident is continuing.
