Manhunt ends with suspect shooting himself in the head

A manhunt for a suspect ends after he shoots himself in the head outside of Natchitoches early Wednesday morning.

Blake Joseph Dauzat was wanted in connection with a shooting Tuesday night in the 300 block of G.R. Bardwell Rd. near Chopin. 

Investigators said Dauzat allegedly shot a man several times before running away from the home.  

The victim, who was suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper hip area, was taken to  to Rapides Regional Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition.

NPSO Criminal Investigators, Natchitoches SWAT, Louisiana State Police, and Louisiana State Police Air Support all participated in a manhunt to locate Dauzat. 

After several hours of negotiating authorities found Dauzat with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Dauzat was taken to Rapides Regional Medical Center Trauma Center in Alexandria were he was pronounced dead around 6:45 a.m. 

NPSO Sheriff Victor Jones, Jr. said, “This is a very unfortunate incident, we feel for the Dauzat family at this time, and extend our thoughts and prayers to them'”.
