SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) Shreveport’s gateway to summer party, the Mudbug Madness Festival will be held next weekend – May 24-26 in Shreveport’s Festival Plaza.

The event will kick off at 11 a,m. Friday when lunch will be served until 2 p.m. This year, the Festival has added an incentive to take a vacation day on Friday, with a marathon eight-hour happy hour featuring $3 adult beverages, beginning at 11 a.m. and ending at 7 p.m.

The celebration is built around crawfish, Louisiana’s ditch delicacy, nicknamed mudbugs, due to the tiny-lobster-looking crustacean is found living in the mud of freshwater bayous and marshes.

Sponsored by CenterPoint Energy, the 36th annual three-day festival will feature two stages of live music, arts and crafts vendors, and food vendors whose star billings are  popular Louisiana favorites such as boiled crawfish, gumbo, jambalaya and boudin, with other foods as well.

Opening Ceremonies will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, along with the always-popular Media Crawfish Eating competition, which will be followed by live music and loads of food, food and more food, not to mention beer. Lot’s of beer.

Entertainment, which begins at 11 a.m. Friday with a two-hour dance music set by Kids on the Bayou, will run continuously throughout the weekend, along with crawfish eating contests for men, women and children, a crawfish calling contest, puppet shows and even a ‘Rockin Yoga’ class at 11 a.m. Saturday.
