Evidence turned over to defense and court date for next hearing

Michael Tyler,47, the rap star known as “Mystikal” briefly appeared in Caddo District Court this morning with his attorney, Timothy Yazbeck, of the Smith & Fawer LLC firm in New Orleans.

Tyler, who is being held at Caddo Correctional Center on $3 Million bond, in an alleged rape that occurred in October 2016 in the 300 block of Clyde Fant Parkway. He is accused of 1st Degree Rape and 2nd Degree Kidnapping in the crime.

After a brief exchange between lead prosecutor, Caddo ADA Ron Stamps, and Yazbeck, July 11 was set for Tyler’s next court appearance.

Averweone Holman, 27, who faces the same charges as Tyler, was in court later this morning for arguments and hearings. He was represented by his lawyer, Kenneth Beck. Holman’s attorney had a conflict with the July 11 date, so Holman will be back in court July 12.

Holman also is being held at CCC on $3 Million bond.

Also in court today was 43-year-old Tenichia Walford, who faces an Obstruction of Justice and Assessory after the Fact charges in the crime. Walford, who is being held at CCC on $700,000 bond, will be back in court with her attorney, for arguments and hearings on July 11.

Tyler and Holman were arrested in August 2017, after a months-long investigation into the alleged sexual assault.

Investigators collected witness statements, statements from the victim, and physical evidence from the scene. Investigators submitted the evidence to the North Louisiana Criminalistics Laboratory for DNA analysis.

Sex Crimes Investigators were notified DNA evidence recovered during the initial investigation linked Tyler and Holman to the alleged rape.

SPD investigators were able to obtain warrants for the arrests of the two men, and Walford, a friend of theirs from Harker Heights, Texas, who allegedly sought out the victim and tried to convince her to drop the charges.

Holman was arrested first on August 18, 2017, in Killeen, Texas, his home town; and Tyler turned himself in and was booked into CCC just before 3:30 p.m.  August 21, 2017.

Walford was booked into CCC about an hour after Tyler.

Tyler spent six years at Hunt Correctional Center after pleading guilty to sexual battery and extortion charges after pleading guilty to forcing his hairstylist to perform sex acts. He was released in January 2010 and was required to register as a sex offender.

In February 2012, Tyler was arrested for domestic abuse battery, and was in jail nine days; in April, the was sentenced to three months for violation of probation he was given following his 2010 release from prison. He served from May to August 2012 in the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail, and was free for four years before the alleged rape was committed in Shreveport.

Stamps, who is lead prosecutor in all three cases, has been on prosecution teams in a number of 1st and 2nd Degree Murder convictions as well as rape convictions in Caddo and Desoto Parishes for more than a decade.
