The Miss USA pageant may be held in Shreveport this year.
The city is being considered as the host site. Officials said nothing is set in stone yet. However, we do know representatives from Miss USA are in town visiting and checking out George’s Pond at Hirsch Coliseum as the potential site.
The Hirsch actually hosted the event back in February of 1997.
The General Manager of the State Fair of Louisiana said local delegates met with representatives from Miss USA and Miss Teen USA at the Hirsch Wednesday. He said they’re very interested.
The Tourist Bureau is overseeing the efforts to try and get the pageant here. They said the event could bring-in millions in economic impact and boost the city’s marketing potential.
“Anytime there’s an opportunity of this magnitude we always want to make sure it’s a positive return on investment for our community and we know this event does have a strong following so we’re excited about the possibility and hope to have an announcement soon,” said Brandy Evans, Vice President of Communications Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau.
“It’ll be in the middle of may so it’s a pretty quick turn around. We just got the call just the call about a week ago or so that they were looking at Shreveport- Bossier and potentially here at the Louisiana State Fairgrounds,” said Chris Giordano, President and GM of the State Fair of Louisiana.
The Hirsch is leased by Encompass Sports Management that owns the Mudbugs hockey team. Giordano said since Encompass took over a few years ago, they invested around three-million dollars in upgrades at the Hirsch. Including new seating, lighting and paint. He said they’re actually better equip to host it now than they were in the late 90s’.
They said we should hear a decision by sometime next week.
