Mitch Downey named Bossier Schools interim superintendent

Mitch Downey was named interim superintendent tonight for the Bossier Parish School District.

Former Superintendent Scott Smith is facing a federal investigation.

Smith became Superintendent in May 2016 but on Monday he annouced his retirement effictive immediately.

This all stems from an ongoing homeland security investigation into Smith

Smith has not been charged in the investigation and there’s no official word yet about why he’s under investigation.

State law requires for an application process, twice, in a publication for others to apply for a permanent superintendent.

The application will be posted on the board website on the week of February 18th. Another ad will run the week in publications during week of February 25 and March 4th.

 The final deadline is March 20. Final interviews will be week of April 22.
