Summer camp is in full swing at The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club and there was a special visitor today. Mrs. Louisiana International contestant and Shreveport native, Crystal Barrow, stopped by this afternoon to visit with summer campers ages 6-8. Part of the summertime activities during camp include designated reading time throughout the day. Barrow shared her passion for reading with the students and read one of her favorite books “Oh the Places You’ll Go!” by Dr. Seuss.
The children interacted with Barrow by taking turns reading this Dr. Seuss classic. Barrow talked about the importance of reading daily and how she has always had a love for reading. She recalled reading the newspaper at her grandmother’s house as a child and always volunteering in school to read aloud to her class. Barrow plans to return to the club next week to spend some time reading with students ages 10-12.
According to the Mrs. International website, Mrs. International began 30 years ago, and it’s intended to showcase women 21 to 56 years old who have been married at least six months. Next month, Barrow will join other Mrs. International contestants from around the world in Charleston, West Virginia to compete for the 2018 Mrs. International title.
