Natchitoches city of lights gets ready to shine for the holiday season

“It’s the city of lights, my favorite thing to do here is just to go and see Santa and the fireworks and everything, I love it so much,” said Madeline Mitchell a native of Natchitoches.

Front street in the historic downtown Natchitoches gets a Christmas make-over heading into the holidays.

For the 92ND annual ‘Festival of Lights’ lighting the city up with more than 300,000 Christmas lights.

Hope Marceaus says,”I never seen a lot of lights at once so, I’m excited.”

Many travel from out of town to watch the city turn on the lights.

Hope Marceaus who traveled from Morgan City to see the lights says she,”been wanting to come for year’s and I never got a chance to come so i’m just excited living in the moment.”

Throughout the day people enjoyed a parade, fireworks show and Christmas decorations.

Natives say they don’t ever miss the festival of lights.

Petula  Holden who lives in Natchitoches says she remembers,”being a little girl and my parents would bring me to the parade, it was the biggest thing that we looked forward to on a daily basis we were ready for December to come.”

Saturday’s festivities also serve as an official kickoff for the Christmas season.

Marceaus says,”I’m excited I get to be with my best friend around Christmas that’s two of my favorite things.”

“I love Santa, because even though i’m 19 I still go and sit in lap.” Mitchell said. “I’m just ready to go see Santa!”

The Christmas lights will be up until January 6th.
