The health sciences program is growing at Texarkana College.
Today the school’s board of trustees approved adding a new associate’s degree for pharmacy technology.
It’s a two-year degree that will provide students more training for a competitive advantage in this growing field.
Officials said the demand for certified pharmacy technicians will increase more than 25 percent in the next five years.
“Some of our students that have already completed the certificate program have shown great interest in coming back to complete the last year and gain the associate of applied science in pharmacy technology,” said Dean of Health Sciences Courtney Shoalmire.
The new degree program will begin in fall 2019.
