Shreveport Police have released the name of the officer involved in a fatal shooting.

It happened Sunday afternoon in the 1400 block of San Jacinto Street.

SPD says they were told that a man was reportedly on scene armed with a handgun.

The man, later identified as Jerry Foster, was said to be firing shots and was allegedly holding a woman at gunpoint.

Investigators say Corporal Brad Sotak fired at least one shot, hitting Foster.

Foster was taken to University Health Hospital where he later died.
