Local News

A new and unique art exhibit at Bossier Parish Community College is shining a light on mental health issues.

“Out of the Darkness” is currently on display at the Donna Service Art Gallery inside Building A on the BPCC campus.

This exhibit features various types of art that represent mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

Art featured in “Out of the Darkness” was comprised by BPCC students, faculty and local artists.

Nikki Henderson spoke with BPCC Professor Lily Thompson about the importance of raising awareness of mental health issues and seeking help.

Thompson wants everyone to know that mental health conditions are nothing to be ashamed of and that there are many resources available in our area so that no one has to suffer in silence.

A closing reception and panel discussion on mental health topics will be held from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 27 in front of the Donna Service Art Gallery. Artist awards will also announced and light refreshments will be served.

“Out of the Darkness” will be on display through March 29.
