LUNA, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – A West Monroe man is dead and a Columbia man is recovering in a Shreveport Hospital, following a head-on collision in Ouachita Parish early Friday evening.

Stephen Spillmon of West Monroe, 62, was pronounced dead at the scene and 31-year-old Timothy Morris of Columbia was airlifted to Ochsner LSU Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.

Shortly before 6 p.m. Friday, troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 557, just north of Line Road in Luna.

The initial investigation revealed Spillmon was driving a 2004 GMC Safari van south on Highway 557.
For reasons still under investigation, Spillmon’s van crossed the center line into the northbound lane and collided with a 1995 Toyota 4-Runner driven by Morris.

After impact, both vehicles came to rest in the roadway.

Spillmon, who was properly restrained, was pronounced dead by the Ouachita Parish Coroner’s Office. Morris, who also was wearing a seatbelt, was listed in stable condition and doing good today, according to Tina Martinez, spokesperson for Ochsner LSU.

A toxicology sample was obtained and submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
