Person escapes fire at local apartment complex

One person was able to escape after a fire broke out at a Shreveport apartment complex.

Firefighters responded to the blaze shortly after 1 p.m. at the Colonial Plaza Apartments in the 200 block of Sand Beach Blvd. 

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire which was contained to the kitchen area.

The person inside the apartment at the time of the blaze was able to get out unharmed.

There was smoke damage throughout the entire apartment and the unit below had some minor water damage. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
