Police carry the torch for Special Olympics

Texarkana police take to the streets to carry the torch for the Arkansas Special Olympics.

The police department kicked off the Southwest leg of the race. The torch which carries the flame of hope, will be passed on to other police agencies in Arkansas. Making its way to Harding University in Searcy. For the summer games. participants raise nearly 500,000 dollars for the Arkansas Special Olympics each year.

“We have so many local athletes here that are competing in the games that we’re so proud of and we want to show our support for them,” said Kristi Bennett.

Opening ceremonies begin Thursday, May 24th.
