Police find homes for shelter pets

Local News

The Texarkana, Texas Police Department is on a mission to reduce the number of pets in its local animal shelter.

Its campaign, called “Too Cute Tuesday,” features a homeless dog or cat.  This week’s lucky pet is a boston terrier-mix called Bart.

Bart was picked up by animal control about two weeks ago in a cemetery on the Arkansas side.  Shelter workers say he was very thin but is gaining weight nicely and loves people.  Texarkana, Texas police say the goal of their program is to find homes for as many shelter pets as possible.

Officer Shawn Vaughn said, “We’ve featured about twenty animals so far through this.  We started about four to five months ago.  As far as I know, every one that we featured so far has been adopted.”

For more information on adopting Bart or any other animal at the Animal Care & Adoption Center in Texarkana, visit their website at http://acac.txkusa.org/ or visit them at 203 Harrison Street, Texarkana, Arkansas.
