East Texas authorities have identified a man who was hit and killed by a train over the weekend.
On Sunday, around 5 p.m., the police responded to the railroad tracks between the Lantrip St. Crossing and the State Hwy 42 Overpass in Kilgore on reports of a person being struck by a train.
Police searched the track area and soon located a deceased male, identified as Jeremy Nathan Owens, 38, of Kilgore, just north of the tracks in brush.
Union Pacific personnel reported the train was traveling east when the conducted saw Owens walking on the tracks. Owens was facing away from the train, also traveling east. The conductor sounded the horn four to five times in an attempt to warn Owns to leave the tracks, however, officials say Owens never acknowledged the horn.
Owens was pronounced dead at the scene by Gregg County Justice of the Peace Talyna Carlson and an autopsy was ordered.
The accident is still under investigation.
Anyone with information related to this case should contact Detective Lynn Newbill at 903-218-6907 and reference case number 1807-0035.
