Monroe Police have arrested a woman after they say her child was found wandering in the middle of the roadway.
Angel Scott, 25 of Monroe, was arrested on March 20, 2019.
According to the arrest report, Monroe officers responded to a call in reference to a juvenile investigation.
Once officers arrived, they talked to a witness who said she saw a child walking in the middle of the road.
The witness said they noticed the child was not with an adult and appeared to be lost and was about to walk into S. Grand Street.
The witness removed the child from the roadway and called Monroe Police. Officers spoke with several other witnesses who confirmed this.
Police say nobody in the immediate area was able to identify the child. After about 20 minutes, a woman arrived on the scene. The woman was speaking with someone on Facebook and said, “Oh my God, the Police have your kid down here.” She then told police she was speaking to Angel Scott, who was the mother of the child.
Officers had dispatch contact Child Protective Services to have them en route to the Monroe Police Department. The child’s grandmother arrived and said Scott was notified and was on her way.
Scott arrived and said she was watching her 4 other children play in the front yard when the child must have wandered off.
Officers asked who was watching the other children at the house.
Scott told officers a neighbor was watching them, but she did not know the neighbor’s name.
Officers went to the residence with Scott and found 6 children unattended ranging in age from 1 to 6 years of age.
The grandmother took control of the children at the residence.
The child was taken to the Monroe Police Department to wait for Child Protective Services.
Scott was taken into custody and has been booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on one count of child desertion.
Her bond has not been set.
