The Marshall Police Department is taking steps to help churches protect their congregation during an active shooter situation.

MPD will be offering a free training class from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.  Tuesday, Nov. 21 at the Visual Arts Center on 208 E Burleson St.

The purpose of the course is to train religious organizations on how to handle an active shooter situation until police arrive.

Each church is encouraged to send at least 4-5 people including the pastor, deacons or other staff to the class.

MPD plans to hold more sessions for residents in the future, but this first class we would like to keep limited to pastors and church staff only.

Pleas RSVP to: and be sure to include the name of your church and the names of anyone coming with you.
