Red River in Natchitoches continues to rise; deputies patrolling flood areas

Deputies in Natchitoches Parish are monitoring and patrolling high water areas in Natchitoches Parish from recent heavy rains and backwater flooding from the Red River.

According to the National Weather Service, the reading this morning of the Red River at Grand Ecore was 35.42 feet, Flood Stage: 33 feet. The Red River is expected to 39.0 feet by Friday evening then begin falling.

Tuesday morning Black Lake reading was 107 feet, flood stage is 106. Black Lake is expected to rise to 108 feet by Thursday evening.

Deputies will continue to monitor these areas, and recommend motorists not travel through floodwaters. It may seem that floodwaters are not deep, but beneath the surface there may be washouts, cave-ins, etc. that could lead to drowning, injury or significant property damage to vehicles.
