Residents to have option to donate for animal control

MILLER COUNTY, Ark - Residents in Miller County, Arkansas will soon be able to donate to animal control when they pay their local taxes.

New Miller County Judge Cathy Hardin Harrison emphasized the twenty dollar donation is voluntary.  She said the public shelter in the City of Texarkana, Arkansas received more than a hundred calls a month from residents in the county.

There's a one hundred and fifty dollar fee to drop off an animal.  Harrison hopes to use donations to lower the fee.  "If enough comes in, I'd love to go to a phase two, maybe Miller County could have an animal control officer but that costs money.   This is a county-wide problem.  We need the citizens of Miller County to get involved."

Miller County currently does not set aside money for animal control.
