A local church is celebrating their pastor after 36 years of service. Hundreds of people filled St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church to honor Rev. Benjamin D. Blake for his commitment to his congregation.
At 91 years old he is the oldest active pastors in the area. Pastor Blake says spreading God’s message brings him joy.
“After being called to the ministry I found out that it’s a tremendous work to be done. And now that since I’ve been in it. It’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me. I wouldn’t take another job. I wouldn’t be the president of the United States instead of being the pastor,” said Rev. Benjamin D Blake, Pastor.
“We’re grateful to the Lord at 91-years-old that he’s still vibrant and he’s still serving in the pulpit,” said Benetta Perry, Pastor Blake’s Daughter.
“To know that my earthly father has given his life to serve people and build up God’s kingdom. It’s just a blessing,” said Teresa Beaudoin. Pastor Blake’s Daughter.
Pastor Blake will be 92 in July and plans to continue to lead his church.
