At NBC 6, we not only honor Salute the Badge – but honor it as well.
“There’s more that needed to be told about officers and first responders that are not being told,” said KTAL General Manager Mark McKay. “We needed to humanize law enforcement.”
The commitment is honored every year as we hold a banquet to Salute the Badge. First responders from all across the ArkLaTex are recognized for the strides they make in the community in or out of the uniform.
“It’s great to see something positive,” said Marshall Police Chief Cliff Carruth. “So many times, you hear the negative. That recuperates. To see something positive to highlight some of the great work that law enforcement does and is involved in… detectives are involved in, fire, medical personnel… it’s really important to highlight that and show the positive.”
Shreveport Police Chief Ben Raymond served as this year’s guest speaker. He says his message is about the communication between the community and the men and women in blue.
“I think that’s the key to improving the lives of our citizens and to decreasing crime even more,” said Shreveport Police Chief Ben Raymond. “We’ve got to get a better understanding of each other’s roles. We want the community to know that we are just like you.”
