On March 20th NBC 6 is honoring local first responders with a special evening and we are honored to have a great leader sharing an amazing story.
Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo will serve as the keynote speaker during NBC 6’s second annual Salute The Badge banquet.
As one of the deadliest, and by far most costly, natural disasters in Texas’ history unfolded in August of 2017, the state and the country grew to know Houston’s top cop.
Chief Acevedo stood front and center as Hurricane Harvey pounded the city, dumping several feet of water.
His police officers and the city’s firefighters working around the clock rescuing thousands.
At the banquet Chief Acevedo will share with the ArkLaTex the amazing and tireless efforts his officers took to protect the nation’s fourth-largest city.
“After all the stuff that they went through with the hurricane down there, spending time to come up and talk to our folks and be a part of honoring the police and first responders here, it speaks volumes,” said KTAL NBC 6 General Manager Mark McKay.
The Salute The Badge banquet is an honor ceremony where the television station recognizes those putting their lives on the line to protect ours.
“We are expecting 600 people to show up,” said McKay. “It really give me chill-bumps to think about the stories that they have and the appreciation that they have for us as a television station to tell those stories.”
Stories of everyday heroes, told so appreciation for all they do does not go unnoticed.
“I think the ground swell is there,” said McKay. “Certainly the appreciation for the officers and their families is there, that maybe this can be something that envelopes more in the community. That’s certainly what I hope to see.”
The Salute The Badge banquet takes place Tuesday, March 20th, in the grand ballroom at Sam’s Town Casino.
