Salvation Army says donations slow down during the summer months

Local

The heat is high and so is the need for donations at the Salvation Army store in Shreveport.

During the summer months, non-profits tend to see fewer monetary donations come in due to families vacationing and enjoying time off. The Salvation Army of Northwest Louisiana needs to garner some extra dollars within this slower donation period. One way you can help is by shopping at the non-profit’s monthly family store sales.

If you’re looking for a good deal or if you’re just looking for that diamond in the rough, then the Salvation Army Family Store is one of your favorite places. But now the summer months are upon us and that means the racks are getting bare, putting a strain on organizers and shoppers alike.

Year round, the organization works to help as many families as possible  They are looking for the community to support their one-day sale on Thursday, June 28th from 9am-4: 45 p.m at 147 E. Stoner Avenue in Shreveport.

The family store launched its one-day sale concept when it re-opened in March, after being closed for nearly five months. Since then, more than $8,000 has been raised through store sales. All of which goes back into local programming.

The non-profit is also gearing up to host various fundraising activities next month as part of their Christmas in July events. The family store will have two sales in July, the first on July 19th and the second on July 26th, both from 9am-4: 45pm .
