Police want drivers to remember when school starts back on Monday to follow the rules when driving in a school zone.
Drivers need to be cautious and pay attention to signs and when they are in a hands free zone and to remember to reduce your speed when the flashing yellow lights come on in a school zone.
Cell phone use is not allowed in a school zone.
Drivers need to be mindful of school buses, when driving on a undivided roadway both sides of traffic needs to stop 30 feet from the bus when they are dropping off kids and picking them up.
Corporal Jimmie Minor, Traffic Division Shreveport Police Department says, “we get a lot of well I didn’t see the sign or I didn’t see the lights but there all marked and posted and again a lot of them don’t have blinking lights signal lights through out the city but again if the sign is posted it no different from a speed light sign, or a stop sign, or a yield sign.”
If you speed in a school zone, the fine will be higher than usual, and you will have a mandatory court appearance.
Police will be monitoring the school zones come Monday morning so be prepared to slow down.
