Shreveport City Council discusses postponing airport board appointments

Shreveport City Council discusses how to proceed with appointing new members to the Airport Authority Board.

You may recall the recent controversy as Mayor Adrian Perkins moved to replace three members of the board before their terms expire. Those members went to the State Attorney General challenging the move.

During a work session Monday, City Councilman Grayson Boucher suggested postponing a vote on the replacements. He wants to wait on the attorney general’s opinion to avoid a potential legal challenge.

The city attorney said the mayor has the legal right to make these appointments. The mayor is working to remove the current chair Margaret Shehee, vice-chair Waynette Ballengee. and board member Mary Jackson.

The council will decide Tuesday if they will delay the vote.
