The Shreveport city council rejected Mayor Adrian Perkins proposed $18 dollar Clean City User fee. The vote was 1 to 6 with only council memeber Jerry Bowman voting yes. However a fee is still on the table.
“We want accountability, we want guarantees, we want reassurances and you haven’t done that,” said Lauren Anderson to Perkins. “We elected you to solve the problems. So stop whining about the previous administration. We elected you because of the problems with the previous administration. We are all here for you and we want you to do well and we want Shreveport to do well.”
One council member said, “we need a fee, but we have not decided as a body what fee to impose. Just because we are voting this down, we all agree a fee of some kind is needed.”
“(Council) will either pass something that will be adequate or we’re going to have to come back towards the end of the year and start looking at cuts that can be made in the budget to potential critical services,” said city spokesman Ben Riggs.
