Shreveport Police reach out to Allendale with Party with a Purpose

Local

Party with a Purpose was a block party at the Canaan Village Apartments in Allendale. It was a chance to have fun but neighbors could also talk to officers about how to report a crime, neighborhood watch and issues in the community.

Corporal Joshua Dowell of the Shreveport Police Department, said “Try to let them know that you’re police officers are here for you, they’re working for you.”

Kanessha Williams has lived in Allendale for about a year with her four kids. She said “I thought I’d be living a lot better in the Allendale neighborhood but whats going on lately, I’ve been a little scared.”

But meeting police officers and hearing what they are doing to fight crime in Allendale is making her feel better.

Williams said “Just to talk to the police and have a positive vibe with them, its amazing.”

Rosie Chaffold has lived in Allendale for more than 40 years. She agrees the community needs to do their part, so she made the Allendale Garden of Hope and Love.

Chaffold said “I took what was a drug corner and made a garden out of it. The neighborhood began to get so much better.”

Chaffold hopes other people will be inspired to create project of their own that will help bring down crime while working with police.

Chaffold said “Meetings like this, I believe, is the first step in bringing some type of improvement and help us maintain what we already have.”
