Shreveport Police receive 15 new patrol bicycles

The Shreveport Police Department unveiled 15 new bicycles that will be used to patrol events and neighborhoods throughout the city.

The community oriented policing bureau received the Trek bicycles Friday afternoon, they are equipped with sirens, and red/blue flashing lights. SPD Chief Alan Crump, says the bikes will be used to patrol parades, festivals, fairs and neighborhoods. He says they often serve as an engaging tool for police to interact with citizens.

“The can actually be in the crowd and sometimes that spurs and engages a conversation that may not otherwise take place if a marked unit rolled up,” says Crump.

Crump recognized the 6 local organizations that made donations for the new bikes to be possible; North Shreveport Business Association, Willis Knighton Health System, First United Methodist Church, Southern Hills Business Association, Dandy Products and Red River Cycling.
