Shreveport Police Chief Alan Crump has been cleared in an investigation where he fired his gun while pursuing a suspect last month.
Lt. Matt Prunty, who also discharged his weapon during the Oct. 30 incident, has also been cleared in the investigation.
The District Attorney’s Office conducted a review and determined there were no grounds for action against either officer.
Chief Crump will return to his full duties on Wednesday, Nov. 8.
Although there was no administrative discipline involved in his leave, Mayor Ollie Tyler placed the Chief on leave to maintain full transparency.
Policy does not require officers to be placed on departmental leave under such circumstances.
However, because Chief Crump is the head of the department, Mayor Tyler thought it appropriate to take this action to allow for a full and thorough investigation without the perception of influence from the Chief.
