A Shreveport man is dead and another in the hospital after a Sunday evening shooting in Shreveport’s Lakeside neighborhood.
Shortly before 7:30 p.m. on October 7, 2018, Shreveport Police patrol officers were called to the 2800 block of West Jordan Street relative to a shooting. Upon the arrival of officers, it was discovered a male victim was inside the home suffering fatal gunshot injuries. The remains of the man, who has not been identified, were taken custody of by officials with the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office.
Investigators with the Shreveport Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit were called to the scene, and launched an investigation which remains underway at this hour. Based on preliminary information and evidence gathered at the scene, authorities believe there may have been a verbal dispute between the deceased and another male present at the home when the shooting occurred. Investigators learned the second man had been present inside the home and at some point engaged in the dispute with the deceased. At the height of the dispute both men sustained gunshot injury, possibly at the hand of the other. Police learned the second shooting victim fled the scene and arrived at Willis-Knighton north hospital by private transport, suffering serious injuries. The man, identified as 34 year old Peter S. Hawkins, was transferred to University Health where his condition is considered life-threatening.
