A police K-9 helped officers arrest a Shreveport man accused of violently beating his live-in girlfriend.
The incident happened shortly before 2 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of Idema St.
Officers say the victim and her boyfriend, 45-year-old Jason Viers, were arguing when he allegedly strangled
her and knocked her unconscious after hitting her multiple times in the head with his knee.
The woman was able to escape and run to a neighbor’s house to call for help.
K-9 “Niek” located Viers inside the home and when Viers took an aggressive stance toward Niek, his handler deployed him and he bit Viers in the arm.
Viers was then taken into custody and booked into the Shreveport City Jail on one count each of Felony Domestic Abuse Battery Strangulation and one count of violating a protective order.
Police have charged Viers with Domestic Abuse Battery at least two other times in the past.
Shreveport Police want to remind everyone that there are resources to help victims of domestic violence and they are here to help.
