Shreveport Police have arrested an East Texas man for illegally possessing nearly 3,000 gallons of stolen diesel fuel.
On Wednesday detectives executed an arrest warrant for 40-year-old Raymond Bailey, of Waskom, after receiving a tip he was in Shreveport.
When Bailey was taken into custody officers found him offloading 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel into a private container. There was also a large amount of diesel fuel that had spilled onto the ground.
Louisiana State Police were called to assist with the investigation and the hazmat spill.
Investigators say Bailey was scheduled to offload 7,000 gallons of fuel in DeSoto Parish but allegedly only offloaded a portion of the fuel and brought the rest to Shreveport in what they believe was a ploy to sell the fuel for personal gain.
The truck was inspected on scene and still contained 1,700 gallons of diesel.
Bailey was booked into the Shreveport City Jail for illegally being in possession of 2,700 gallons of stolen diesel fuel valued at over $6,700, Illegal Discharge of Hazmat, Failure to Report Hazmat Incident, and fugitive warrants out of Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office.
