A Shreveport Police Officer is now on administrative leave following a fatal shooting.
Police say on Tuesday afternoon, Officer Treveion Brooks attempted to detain Anthony Childs near the intersection of Kennedy Avenue and Hollywood Avenue.
Police say Childs, ran from Officer Brooks and during that chase, Childs allegedly pulled out a gun.
Police say Childs ignored commands to drop the weapon and Childs fired at least one shot, prompting Officer Brooks to return fire and hitting Childs. Childs was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police say they recovered the firearm Childs was armed with.
Officer Brooks, who was hired by the department in August of 2017, has been placed on paid departmental leave in accordance with departmental policy by Shreveport Police Chief Ben Raymond.
