Shreveport Police continue their investigation into the shooting death of 4-year-old Messiah Murphy, Thursday night in north Shreveport.
Just after 11:00 pm Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to reports of shots being fired in the 1900 block of Patzman Street and in the area of Buena Vista Street and Pierre Avenue.
Minutes later officers received reports of a woman who had arrived at the police station searching for help for a child that had been shot. Officers located the victims in the front parking lot of the Shreveport Police Complex and immediately contacted Shreveport Fire Department to render aid to the little boy who suffered from at least one gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators with the Violent Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Units were able to locate what they believe to be the crime scene at the intersection of Buena Vista Street and Pierre Avenue. Investigators recovered two different caliber shell casings leading them to believe there was more than one weapon involved. Glass fragments from the victim’s car window were also located in the intersection.
Investigators believe the victims, 2 adults and two juveniles, were in their silver sedan when their vehicle was fired upon, resulting in the fatal gunshot injury to the 4-year-old. The sedan was also struck at least four times.
At this time investigators have not released any suspect descriptions or other details. Their investigation continues at this hour.
