A Natchitoches man is behind bars on multiple charges including two felonies after Natchitoches Animal Control officers found two malnourished dogs chained up on his property.

Travas Turner, 36, is being held at the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center after two malnourished, emaciated dogs were found chained up on his property Wednesday.

Natchitoches Animal Control received a call from a concerned citizen about the welfare of two dogs in the 1500 block of Dixie Street in Natchitoches.

When NAC officers arrived around noon, they found a female pit-bull mix on a chain that appeared very thin and malnourished. Another female dog, also on a chain, was deceased.

Officers attempted to make contact with Turner, the owner of the dogs, but no one was at the residence. The officers unchained the surviving animal and transported her to a local vet for evaluation and treatment.

Later, Turner met with Animal Control officers at the Natchitoches Police Department, and following the interview, Turner was taken into custody.

He was booked into jail on two felony counts of to animals, two counts of misdemeanor cruelty to animals, no rabies vaccination, no city pet license and maintenance of premises.  He is being held on $7,500 bond.
