A search is underway for a suspect who hits elderly women with baseball bats and steals their purses outside of local businesses.

The robberies began in late January on Line Ave. and the last known robbery occurred Tuesday night in the 4600 block of Monkhouse Dr.

The suspect approaches female victims from behind and knocks them to the ground and take their purses.

The suspect has become more violent in the last three incidents and is now using a baseball bat to hit the women. On one occasion, the suspect took the victim’s car, which was later recovered.

The suspect is described as a black male who stands 6’ tall and weighs around 170 lbs. He also wears a black hoodie pulled over his head.

Shreveport Police are urging everyone, especially seniors and women traveling alone, to use extra caution especially when in the parking lots:

  • Always be alert, keep your head up with keys in hand
  • Visually scan the parking lot before exiting the business
  • Please do not allow yourself to be distracted by a cell phone or other things.
  • If you see something suspicious, return to the store and call 911.

Businesses are also being urged to keep an extra watchful eye on their parking lots and if they see anything suspicious report it to police immediately.

Anyone with information about these robberies should contact Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373 or visit the website at Lockemup.org
