Suspects who burned, illegally dumped Lab sought

Local

Haughton police are looking for suspects who illegally dumped a dog found on the roadside with a severely burned back.

According to Haughton Police Officer Johathan Odom, a child playing in the yard at his home saw what he described as a man and a woman in a while car stop and put the black Lab out of their car on LA Highway 614 at Camp Street in Haughton.

The child went inside and got his mother, and they were able to get the animal to come to them. They called Haughton Police, who made the report while an animal rescue volunteer came to the scene, picked up the male Lab and took him to a nearby animal hospital for treatment.

Although authorities had no way of knowing the male animal’s name, the volunteer began calling him “Casper.”

Police, who are investigating the case as animal cruelty, say they’ve received a number of tips since they released the photos of Casper on social media, and have also received calls from people in Webster, Bossier and even Caddo Parishes who have had black Labs stolen.

Odom checked in on Casper at the hospital Thursday, and said the dog seems to be doing well.

Anyone with any information is asked to call the Haughton Police Department at (318) 949-6666.
