TEXARKANA (KTAL/KMSS) – Texarkana residents are stepping up their efforts to prevent drug abuse through an annual event.
Officials with Texarkana, Arkansas, Police said more than 80 pounds of prescription medications were collected at the city’s three drop-off locations Saturday as a part of National Drug Take Back Day. The event is a way to safely dispose of expired or unwanted prescription drugs.
More than 320 pounds of pills were collected in the drop boxes over the past six months, which officials said is about equal to as much as was collected in a full year before all the drop boxes were available.
Permanent secure drop boxes are located outside Texarkana Emergency Center, Miller County Sheriff’s Office and Bi-State Justice Center.
