The Texarkana Arkansas Police Department kicks off their annual outreach program to help disadvantaged kids.
More than 100 sixth grades participate in the P.R.I.D.E Academy. The program builds meaningful relationships with local kids and follows up with the students throughout the school year. Police say since the start of the program the juvenile arrest rate is down 57%.
“I want these kids to understand that they can trust police officers here at the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department. Make sure they’re comfortable in public and know they have someone always looking over their back,” said Jalen Manley, Youth Leader.
“Just watch their transformation from beginning to end is an amazing opportunity,” said Loren Bennett, Youth Leader.
The program began in 2012.
